State Board elects officers for 2022-23/celebrates new congregations

PENSACOLA—The Florida Baptist State Board of Missions tapped a new slate of officers and welcomed 61 new congregations during its Nov. 14 meeting held in conjunction with the 2022 Florida Baptist State Convention annual meeting at Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola.

The 61 new cooperating churches, planted between Oct. 1, 2021, and Sept. 20, 2022, represent 25 associations within the state. Two of the congregations are church at large status. The associations and number of church plants are: Tampa Bay, 7; First Coast and Miami, 6 each; Greater Orlando and Palm Beach, 5 each; Brevard and Gulf Stream, 3 each; East Central, Lake County, Ridge, Royal Palm, Seminole and Treasure Coast, 2 each; and Emerald Coast, Florida, Manatee Southern, Nature Coast, New River, Northeast Florida, Pasco, Peace River, Pensacola Bay, St. Johns River, Sumter and Suncoast, 1 each.

An additional 28 congregations were added during the same time period as satellite campuses of existing Florida Baptist churches. These satellite campuses represent 14 associations within the state. One satellite campus is at large status. The associations and number of satellite campuses are: Greater Orlando and Palm Beach, 5 each; Tampa Bay, 3; Marion, Royal Palm and Treasure Coast, 2 each; East Central, First Coast, Lake County, Manatee Southern, North Florida, St. Johns River, Santa Rosa and West Palm Beach, 1 each.

Officers elected to serve for 2022-23 are Aaron Burgner, senior pastor, Lakes Church, Lakeland, to serve as president; Wadler Jules, senior pastor, Emmanuel Haitian Baptist Church, Miami, to serve as vice president; and Angel Turbeville, campus director, Family Church, West Palm Beach, to serve as recording secretary.

An organizational meeting will be held following the FBSC annual meeting to welcome new board members for 2022-23.
