Ken Whitten, recently retired pastor of Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa, Fla., will become national director of pastoral leadership at the North American Mission Board (NAMB), beginning in March. NAMB president Kevin Ezell shared the news at NAMB’s Board of Trustees meeting in Miami, February 7.

The recent announcement of the partnership with the North American Mission Board for church planting in Florida is significant. The Send Network Florida agreement enables any church in the Florida Baptist Convention regardless of location to receive support from FBC and NAMB in church planting efforts.

Six pastors from the west region of Florida had the opportunity to see the diversity and complexity of doing ministry in South Florida this May 20-22 through the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) Catch the Vision Tour. During their time in South Florida the pastors met with church planters, visited communities in need like Downtown Miami and heard first-hand what it is like to minister to the lost in the southern part of the Sunshine state.

For the first time ever the North American Mission Board (NAMB) offered its SEND Church Planter Assessment Retreat completely in Spanish and South Florida was the first region to host it. Iglesia Real in Hollywood hosted the assessors and four church planters along with their wives for the two-day assessment which included interviews, lectures, and exercises in vision casting and preaching among others.
