Stephanie Orr has been named the chair of the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention’s Tellers Committee.

“I was humbled and honored to be considered and picked among so many messengers of the SBC,” Orr said. “I am excited to work with committee members from all walks of life with one common goal: spreading the Gospel to all nations.”

The Tellers Committee is responsible for all the voting that goes on during the SBC’s annual meeting which will take place in Birmingham, Ala. this year. “As the chair I will be responsible for making sure that all the rules and procedures are followed in order to keep the integrity of the voting,” she said.

Prior to the annual meeting Orr and the rest of the committee will receive an orientation in which they will learn their responsibilities as well as where the counting rooms are located in the convention center. Once the SBC meeting is in session the committee members will be present at each business session to collect and count ballots.

“The Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting takes the efforts and selfless contributions of hundreds of volunteers,” SBC President J.D. Greear told Baptist Press. “Each committee member plays a specific role in the success of the convention. The tellers committee is no different. Their efforts to ensure our elections and votes are accurate and trustworthy are worthy of our honor. I want to thank them for their service and the integrity they will bring to the task at hand.”

“I cannot wait to serve with this committee behind the scenes of the Southern Baptist Convention as one body of believers.”

Krissie Inserra of City Church Tallahassee and Agnes Santiago of Covenant Christian Church in Jacksonville will also serve as members of the Tellers Committee.
