Standing on the rooftop of Olive Baptist Church’s sanctuary with its iconic cross beckoning in the background, Pastor Ted Traylor boldly preached the gospel of the resurrection this past Easter at the cusp of the pandemic.

Two northwest Florida Baptist churches–Pensacola’s Olive Baptist Church and First Baptist Church on Bayshore in Niceville–are ministering to families who are bringing the light and hope of Christ into a child’s life through foster care and spurring other families to consider a similar path.

“In Covid-19 ministry days, churches are scrambling for ways to be the church,” said Brian Nall, executive director of the Pensacola Bay Baptist Association. “Most of that has been through a digital presence online.” Yet, food ministry is the first tangible way for churches of all sizes to reach out to communities in need, he said, “filling aching hearts and empty stomachs through boxes of hope.”

Pensacola Baptist churches are grieving as they bring comfort, hope and love to their community after a gunman began shooting at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, killing three people and wounding eight others on Friday, Dec. 6.

Being inspired by the passion this deacon had for evangelism, Traylor was reminded that this deacon was not hindered by the day to day plans that consume many of our schedules. Instead, he displayed eternal focus as he sought out and prioritized every opportunity to share the hope found in Jesus to a lost and dying world.
