Realignment of convention staff brings us closer to our churches

A word from Dr. Green…

The privilege of serving the churches of the Florida Baptist Convention is a sacred stewardship afforded to the State Board of Missions-elected ministry team. This team is granted the opportunity of ministering ‘Right Beside You.’ It is exciting to share the amazing stories of God working in local churches across the state of Florida through your Cooperative Program gifts.

Recent shifts in assignments allow your team to align even more closely with our churches. The addition of the North Florida Region—one of six across the state–places Gary Townsend in this vineyard of ministry as Regional Catalyst. I express appreciation from Florida Baptists to Glen Owens for his productive and fruitful ministry of 27 years to our state. Glen has retired from the Florida Baptist Convention. Craig Culbreth has accepted the role of East Regional Catalyst, beginning this new role in January. Patrick Coats has transitioned to a full-time role as our Black Multicultural Church Catalyst.

Myles Dowdy has been appointed as the Missions and Ministry Catalyst for the Florida Baptist Convention. He moves to this ministry role after serving at First Baptist Brandon for the past 20 years. Myles is qualified at every level to lead this important component of Florida Baptist ministry.

The personalization aspect of our vision is critical to the ministry focus of the Florida Baptist Convention. The Convention exists for the churches of Florida and not the churches for the Convention. It is an honor to serve you and we look forward to all that God will be doing through our churches in Florida in 2017.

I encourage you to make plans to attend ‘Sharper,’ a one-day conference held in more than 20 locations across Florida on Feb. 23. We appreciate the partnership of the Florida Baptist Convention, North American Mission Board and local churches in Florida to provide this quality training. Acts 2:41 Sunday will be an incredible day of celebration. We are asking churches across Florida to plan Beach Baptisms on May 7. We will surround our state with the witness of the Gospel and the testimony of salvation. The blessing of baptizing from coast-to-coast around Florida will be a powerful day of witness. Please plan for your church to join this unified day of baptism. If you cannot make the beach find a body of water that you can utilize on this day.

What a great time in the life of Florida Baptists! #ReachFlorida
