Compassion in Action: Engaging Migrant Ministries Across Florida
Matthew 9:36 tells us, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
In Florida, we see that each year nearly 180,000 migrants call our state their temporary home. Many arrive seeking work, safety, or a better life. By definition, a migrant is someone who moves from one place to another—often in search of a more hopeful tomorrow.
These individuals and families provide vital labor and enrich our communities. As churches, we have an opportunity—not only to serve their physical needs, but to embody Christ’s love through action and witness.
How your church can respond:
-
Offer food, clothing, water, and other essentials
-
Host legal or financial workshops
-
Provide theological training (non-credited)
-
Create kid-friendly events, backpacks, and family outreach
-
Share the Gospel in love, building trust and relationships
The impact of this work reaches far beyond our borders. As migrant workers return to their home countries, they carry stories—stories of kindness, hospitality, and faith.
If your church is ready to get involved or you want more information on practical steps, reach out to Misael Castillo, the Florida Baptist Catalyst for Migrant Ministries. Let’s be the hands and feet of Christ for those who journey through our communities.
