For more than 30 years, entire families at Eastside Baptist Church in Plant City have been blessed by the dedicated service of their children’s ministry director Sally Mallalieu.

Betty Goddard has worked alongside Mallalieu for the last 13 years. She said she has never worked with someone more devoted to children than Sally Mallalieu.

“She has a big heart for the children here and the children just love her,” Goddard said.

Aside from various activities on and off the church campus that Mallalieu is constantly planning for the children of Eastside, she encourages them to memorize bible verses, the names of the books of the Old and New Testaments, Psalm 100, the Ten Commandments and the names of the 12 disciples. She even helps them memorize the plan of salvation. Once they have reached a new accomplishment, she presents them with a special certificate to commemorate the achievement.

Mallalieu is teaching the kids to be service-minded and others-oriented with activities like making Valentines Day cards for widows and widowers in the church and inviting veterans to a special breakfast for Veterans Day. She has also taught them about important denominational offerings like Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, for which the children collect money every year.

Mallalieu’s influence on children spreads to their families and those who serve with her in the children’s ministry.

“Everyone that works with her just loves her,” Goddard said. “She is the reason my family and I are at Eastside.”

Even beyond Eastside, Plant City itself benefits from the love Mallalieu shows children.

“Sally is a very special lady and her love for the Lord, children and other believers shines as a beacon from Eastside to all of Plant City,” Goddard said. “God’s world needs more Sally Mallalieus.”
