BCF Lakeland Preview Day Set for April
LAKELAND—Baptist College of Florida’s first Lakeland Preview Day will be held April 29 at Medulla Baptist Church.
This historic one-day event will provide information on BCF programs being planned for the Central Florida campus as well as allow potential students to meet BCF professors and administrators, including the registrar, academic dean, financial aid representatives, admissions counselors and BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen.
BCF trustees voted in 2019 to launch a second location of the Graceville college in Central Florida with Lakeland being the top location for the new campus under consideration.
The selection of Lakeland for the new campus was both practical and historical. Lakeland was the site of BCF’s first classes in 1943 when the college was known as Florida Baptist Institute, before it was moved to Graceville in the mid-1990s.
“Launching the new work in Lakeland will give us the opportunity to provide top-quality Christian higher education in a high population growth area of the state,” Kinchen said in making the recommendation.
The BCF Lakeland Preview Day will offer two events on the same day to meet the needs of the community and provide an opportunity to meet as many prospective students as possible.
Beginning at 9 a.m. in the gym, doors will open for prospective students and their families to visit different exhibits and gather information about BCF’s degree programs, meet professors and staff from the Graceville campus and hear about the different financial aid options.
The activities are designed to help students determine if BCF’s Lakeland campus is where they should continue their education.
After gathering information, guests will hear the student musical group, One Voice, that frequently leads worship during weekly chapel services in Graceville. A panel discussion will feature faculty and staff highlighting financial aid, transfer credits, degrees offered, and classes to be taught on the Lakeland campus.
BCF President Kinchen will talk about his vision for the school and its future in Lakeland. Prospective students will have a chance to be entered into a several scholarship drawings.
The evening event will begin at 5 p.m. with a meal in the gym, followed by worship. Kinchen will share with local pastors, church leaders, and prospective students interested in BCF’s Lakeland classes. A panel discussion with faculty and staff members from the Graceville campus, exhibits with information, and several scholarships will be presented to conclude the evening.
The faculty, staff, and students from the Graceville campus “are excited to meet with prospective students, church leaders, Christian schools, homeschoolers, and their family members,” said Sandra Richards, director of Student Life and Marketing.
BCF is committed to providing Bible based, affordable Christian high education in the Lakeland area, and dedicated to training and equipping men and women in “Changing the World, through the Unchanging Word.®”
