This May the beaches, lakes, and springs of our Sunshine State will be witness to Gospel testimonies as churches gather from shore to shore to baptize new believers to faith in Jesus Christ as part of the Florida Baptist Convention’s Acts 2:41 baptism emphasis.

The Baptism celebrations will kick off on May 4thwith the One Family baptism event at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The One Family movement started off as fellowship between pastors of different races and backgrounds and evolved into a movement of unity among the South Florida Baptist church congregations.

“We’re trying to get the congregations to become friends like the pastors have become friends,” said pastor of Turning Point and one of the movement leaders, Noel Lozano. “We hope that this is something that can happen statewide, not just in South Florida.”

Last year over 300 people from different backgrounds and speaking different languages gathered at Bill Baggs to witness the baptism of 79 new believers. Lozano hopes that this year the fellowship will be even stronger.Baptism, One Family Beach Baptism, Florida Baptist Convention, Acts 2:41 Sunday“If we’re preaching unity then we want to do [the baptisms] at the same time that our entire convention is doing it. This is not about our individual churches; this is about the whole body of Christ.”

“It’s an exciting time in the life of a church when those baptismal waters are stirred and people are publicly professing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Tommy Green, executive director-treasurer of the FBC. “I encourage you as a church to participate in the Acts 2:41 emphasis. It’s an exciting time when we join all together all over the state of Florida and surround our state with the witness of Jesus Christ.”

Last year 1,100 people made public profession of their faith in Christ across Florida as part of Acts 2:41.
