JACKSONVILLE (FBC)—A Committee on Nominations composed of 29 pastors, 15 laypersons and two associational directors of missions has been appointed by the officers of the Florida Baptist State Convention. Rick Blackwood, pastor of Christ Fellowship Church, Palmetto Bay, was named to chair the 49-member committee; Michael Wiggins, pastor of Pine Terrace Baptist Church, Milton, will serve as vice-chairman. The officers are in the process of naming committee members in three associations where persons declined to serve.

The committee is composed of one member from each of the state’s 49 associations, plus three officers of the state convention who serve as ex officio members. The committee is responsible for nominating Florida Baptists to serve on the state convention’s boards, committees and commissions. Nominations must be approved by messengers during the Florida Baptist State Convention’s annual meeting Nov. 10-11 in Lakeland.

Any Florida Baptist can suggest persons to serve on the governing bodies by requesting nomination forms from Patty Vansant at the Florida Baptist Convention by calling 800-226-8584, ext. 3016; e-mailing pvansant@flbaptist.org or click here to download the nomination form. Completed forms must be received no later than July 23.

To meet guidelines set by the Bylaws of the Florida Baptist State Convention, persons who are recommended by July 23 will be sent a Nominee Qualifying Questionnaire which must be completed and returned by Aug. 11 for committee consideration.

The committee will meet in Tampa on Aug. 19.
