in the life of a church and individual is featured.
A Word of Encouragement…
Now is the Time for Seeking the Lord! … There are many references to seeking the Lord in the Scriptures, but we do not find many who actually seek Him with a whole heart! God promised the Israelites they would find the Lord if they sought Him “with all your heart and all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29). True seeking does not mean casual seeking or making it a hobby or seeking with a ‘when-I-get-around-to-it’ attitude. When the heart is involved, it means intensity. We give all to that which captures our hearts, that which awes our souls, that which we recognize to be of supreme value. Do you and I see Jesus that way? Has He truly captured our hearts? Are we in awe of Him? Is He and His Kingdom really first in our lives, first in the list of priorities, touching and affecting everything else on the list? Jesus told His disciples that those who did not really know the true God had other priorities… things like worrying about what to wear, what to eat or drink, getting more stuff or getting ahead in the world’s rat race (see Matthew 6:25-34).
In David’s day, he made the statement that in the days of Saul the nation did not seek the Ark of the Covenant, the promised meeting place between the Lord and His people (1 Chronicles 13:3). Then, when David tried to move the Ark on an ox-drawn cart (the wrong way to carry it), Uzzah was slain because he touched the Ark as it tottered. Because of that incident, David provides us with a key insight about seeking the Lord in the right way. When they brought the Ark carried on the shoulders of the priests, David stated, “because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst on us, for we did not seek Him according to the ordinance,” referring to “the ordinance” in the Word of God (1 Chronicles 15:13-15). Seeking the Lord means coming to Him with full heart intensity and with diligent searching of the Word of the Lord—to be instructed by His Spirit through His Word, to know the mind of the Lord, and to know how to pray. It takes TIME in the Word and TIME in prayer alone and with others. That is God’s call to each of us—in a TIME of INTENSITY, take TIME to SEEK THE LORD with INTENSITY. |
