New set of theological classes offered for Spring semester

GO TO SPRING 2008 CLASSES

JACKSONVILLE (FBC)—With the recent accreditation of the Orlando Regional Hub, Florida Baptist vocational ministers and lay leaders now have a growing network of theological classes available beginning in January for the spring semester.

Degree programs, offered in three languages and at six sites across the state, are available through The Baptist College of Florida and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at the associate, bachelor and graduate levels.

In September NOBTS created a regional hub in Orlando, which meets at the First Baptist Church of Orlando and will allow NOBTS extension students to earn more of their seminary degree in Florida. In the past, students were required to earn 30 credit hours on the New Orleans campus. With the accreditation of the new hub, students may now earn up to 18 of those hours in Orlando, offering a substantial financial savings for Florida Baptist students.

Classes start the week of Jan. 21 for BCF and NOBTS students. Because different sites meet on different days, prospective students should contact the local center director for specific instructions regarding application and registration.

A number of study options are available:.

Certificate classes: Students with a high school diploma or GED may pursue an eight-credit hour church leadership certificate through Leavell College of NOBTS. Students may earn a certificate by taking eight classes in biblical teaching, pastoral ministry or church planting. Certificate hours may be transferable into an associate degree program.

Sites and information contacts on the certificate programs are: First Brazilian Church of Pompano Beach, Rosemary Decotelli, 754-235-1299; Brevard Baptist Association, Ann Gates, 321-631-0820; Brevard Baptist Church in Merritt Island, Charlene Anderson, 321-453-2146; Emmanuel Baptist Church in North Miami, Wadler Jules, 305-888-9777; First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Marcus Allen, 904-366-1352; and Florida Baptist Convention Church Planting, Charles Harvey, 407-514-4412.

Associate level classes: In North and Central Florida, an associate of divinity degree may be earned at extension centers in Pensacola, Jacksonville and Orlando through BCF. In the South Florida, students may earn an associate in Christian ministry degree through NOBTS Leavell College centers in Brandon, Hialeah and Fort Lauderdale.

Bachelor level classes: Bachelor’s degree programs are offered at several sites for students who have earned an associate degree or its equivalency from a regionally accredited institution. A bachelor of science in biblical studies may be pursued at extension centers in Pensacola, Jacksonville and Orlando through BCF. Bachelor of Christian Ministry degrees may be pursued at extension sites and centers in Hialeah and Fort Lauderdale through NOBTS Leavell College.

Master level classes: Students with earned bachelor degrees from a regionally accredited institution can work towards the master of divinity or master of arts in Christian education through NOBTS in Pensacola, Graceville, Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami. Twelve hours of credit must be earned at the New Orleans campus, but eighteen of the required thirty on-campus hours may be earned at the new Orlando HUB.

Doctoral seminars: Professional doctoral programs are offered to those who have earned a master of divinity or a master of arts in Christian education.

Persons deciding which program of study might be right for them should contact Charles Harvey at 407-514-4412; David Lema, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale region, at 305-888-9777; or the nearest local site director listed below.
