*UPDATE*

Here are some pictures from today’s One Family event! Check these out:

The shores of Bill Baggs Cape State Park are about to come alive with the Gospel testimony of Jesus as hundreds gather to celebrate being ‘One Family’ in Christ through baptism.

Today’s baptism celebration is the culmination of nearly a year of planning, as pastors from African-American, Haitian, Hispanic and American congregations have been meeting together to find better understanding and break down racial and ethnic divides.

The answer?

“We are as diverse as we can be but our common bond is Christ,” said Erik Cummings, pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Carol City and one of the pastors whose heart was to see people come together, rallying around Jesus as the tie that binds us all.

John Voltaire, Haitian catalyst for the Florida Baptist Convention, said many Haitian churches are excited about today’s event and are eager to take part.

Noel Lozano, pastor of Turning Point Baptist Church in Miami, said this event has the potential to bring about real change in the church and in the community.

“In our city we have obstacles between [our] communities, but everything starts with the church,” Lozano said. “We need to show them.”
