LEESBURG (FBC)—The extensive ministry-evangelism network of First Baptist Church in Leesburg will be showcased when the 2010 National Ministry Conference meets at the church March 18-20.
The national ministry evangelism conference is designed to encourage and equip those who are meeting the physical and spiritual needs of lost and hurting people through practical, biblical and relevant ministry. This conference with the theme, “Positioning Your Church for Ministry,” will host 66 workshops with 40 leaders who are resource experts in their mission field.
As one of the events’ keynote speakers, Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church of Pensacola, said, “I find that when we use the Good News and good works we have a good response in our culture.” The Olive church is using First Leesburg’s model to develop a similar ministry-evangelism village.
The conference begins on Thursday, March 18, at 9 a.m. The first day consists of registration, tours of the ministry village and a message, “Herding Cats-Leading a Multi-Ministry Church,” by First Leesburg’s church leaders Charles Roesel, pastor emeritus, and Cliff Lea, senior pastor.
Friday will include plenary sessions followed by three breakout sessions. The day ends with messages from Traylor and Linda Smith from Shared Hope International.
The weekend will conclude with a sermon by Sammy Gilbreath, Office of Evangelism for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
Breakout sessions include: Engaging Beyond the Four Walls; Local Churches and Social Justice; Special Events and Evangelism in Ministry; Connecting the Needy into Your Church; The Thriving Beach Community; Church-School Partnerships; Fresh Start-Helping the Unemployed; and Harvest Garden-Feeding Your Community.
Art Ayris, executive pastor of First Leesburg, said, “This will be a best-practices showcase of ministries with a proven track record of reaching people for Christ.”
Workshops are led by pre-eminent leaders in each ministry field including: Victor Lee, NAMB consultant for sports ministries; Jeff Wagner, NAMB resort and special ministries coordinator; Kay Bennett, NAMB consultant for Domestic Violence and Issues of Urban Women and director of the Baptist Friendship House in New Orleans; Mary Lou Hendry, Sanctity of Human Life director for the Florida Baptist Children's Homes; and Ryan Messmore with The Heritage Foundation. “We are blessed to have so many creative communicators gathering for this conference to inspire, encourage, and inform us on how to reach multitudes for Christ through ministry evangelism,” said Roesel.
The registration fee for the weekend is $60 if paid on-line. The fee at the door will be $75. To register or for more information and conference schedule of the conference, go to www.namb.net/meconf.
